i'm so-so on this banana maca porridge. i has a weird aftertaste. like bitter and soapy :P plus i don't taste much banana/ and i think "maca" refers to macadamia nuts (which are yummy and crispy) and not macca root powder. i think all these porridge mixes contain mesquite powder. i don't know if that is the strange taste. could be the sunflower, which can be bitter. and it's a little slimy. i know it's supposed to be a porrisge, but i'd prefer just a grainy cereal.
i see ground nuts, seasame seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut, macadamia nuts...
i've been adding honey because it's not sweet enough for me. i dont know why i didn't just go for the chocolate one in the first place but it is next on my list.
HAVE A NICE EARTH DAY EVERYONE! LOVE YOUR MOTHER!

kelp noodles
these are raw noodles! at first i tried them cold in a salad wrap and i didn't care for the texture. they were rubbery, even crunchy, with a slightly weird taste. but i recently gave them another try in a warm miso soup. this softened them up and covered any taste. they are now much like bean thread "invisible" noodles.

hmm, so what do i think of this?
right now i am eating this raw cookie.

it is made from Almonds (sprouted), raisins, agave and caradmom. the cardamom was an interesting choice, usually you see sinnamon in a raisin cookie, but the cardamom gives it and interesting Indian Food/Chai flavor. i had wondered about the ethnicity of the owner(s) of this company since "Gopal" does sound like an Indian name. ah, plus this label has a seal that says "Prasadam" and the proceeds go toward Cow Protection. :D
it also mentions that you should drink a lot of water when eating dehydrated foods, which i hadn't really thought of before, but of course it makes sense.

anyway, this cookie is chewy and tastes mostly like raisin and cardamom(which is strong in the first bite, but calms down and blends together later), and is nicely sweetened. I definitely like it better than the rawma bar and power wraps i've tried from this same company.
looks like they also make something called "Raw Alchemy Brownie" which sounds metallic, but exciting. heheh
Edit: i happened to try this because i received it for free at work, but i checked on the price today and it was 3.05 for one cookie! i think for 5 bucks you could get enough ingredients to make ten cookies. in fact i'm pretty sure i have all the ingredients in my house already.

surprises, good and otherwise
i was trying to sprout some amaranth as an experiment. i kept it moist for 3 days an nothing was happening so gave up and was just gonna let it dry up and brush it out of my sprouting jar. so i came back to it a day or more later and was surprised to see some pink dots in the tan colored grain. it was sprouting after all! i happened to look at a sprouting chart and it says amaranth should be sprouted in 24 hours. so either they mean you soak it without actually getting to the germinating stage, or my seeds where really slow. anyway, i think i'll just plant them rather than eat them.

i tried some jocalat bars and didn't really care for them. i got the chocolate cherry and chocolate hazelnut flavors. i found both jars to be pretty sour tasting. i think they don't sweeten the chocolate. i also tried the larabar chocolate chip brownie which is almost the extra same ingredients as the jocalot hazelnut bar (dates, chocolate, nuts, except that they add sugar and salt, and the larabar was better. but my fav ones are still the coconut and the peanut butter chocolate chip that i bought before.

chocolate, nuts and seeds
thought i'd mention some commercially available things i've tried lately.

i dont think the bumble bar is actually raw, but it's pretty darn close. it has whole flax and seasame seeds with agave, cocoa, nuts, and other things. i'm not sure if they cook it or not. it's not cake like, more chewy, and sticky like the raw bar i tried. it comes in a lot of flavors. i tried the chocolate cherry and it was yummy.
the cocoa nibs and cashews were good too. i like the nibs, they were the softest i'd ever had, with no hard stem or shell parts. maybe they aren't even dehydrated. the palm nectar on them made it sweet enough to cover the bitterness a little.
i've been putting sprouted almonds in my buckwheat cereal. i acutally just soak and srpuit them together, so it's super easy. my store sells sprouted raw almonds for 15 dollars a pound, but i just have a bag of raw almonds from costco in my freezer and puull out what i need.

sprouted almonds are hollow, since they've started the growing process, and the water made them swell.

Food Party!
i know there will be good food when a grocery store throws a party. Tonight was my co-op's annual party and each department brought food. i did get to try some of our raw products that i hadn't gotten to taste yet. i had a little bit of a raw chocolate cheesecake by Earth Cafe Living foods.(https://earthcafetogo.com/ their website seems a tad self righteous for making cake..."GENIOUS DEFINES POWER!") it may have been a bit to warm, but the taste was like cinnamony butter. it was too soft i think. The treat i really liked was the vanilla popsicle by Happy Day Raw foods, handmade in AShland Oregon.
They are almost entirely frozen coconut, so that is most was it tastes like, but that's good with me. it can be a a little grainy, but it still tastes great.
ingredients!
raw coconut milk, coconut oil, coconut sugar, lucuma powder, vanilla bean.
sounds easy enough to make in a home freezer.
i guess the coconut sugar is like coconut crystals : http://lesliesorganics.com/crystals.html
i also had the chocolate one, which was super chocolately and not too sweet. but i think i prefer the vanilla/coconut one. nom nom nom

i even have coconut milk lid earrings :D
